GREER – The Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW) was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) for the 2017 fiscal year from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This is the 14th consecutive year CPW has received such an award and is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
“Transparency in our financial reporting is paramount when it comes to operating a Public Power utility. We take pride in excelling in all facets of the organization including our finances. We are very proud to receive recognition from this nationwide organization. Many of our peers have never received one of these awards but this is our fourteenth in a row. We are very proud of our Finance Manager, Chuck Reynolds and his entire staff,” said Gene Gibson, CPW Chairman.
“The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program strives to assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements for communicating to the users of the financial statements the information necessary to assess the financial health of the respective government. The finance staff at Greer CPW works diligently each year to prepare its CAFR for adhering to the requirements of this program, communicating our financial history to those who read our CAFR. Receiving this recognition for the 14th consecutive year is an honor,” said Chuck Reynolds, CPW Finance Manager.
Greer CPW’s CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the CAFR. The CAFR also requires a higher level of reporting than the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Greer CPW’s financial statements and information can be found on our website.
