The Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW) Electric Department was recently recognized with the American Public Power Association (APPA) Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2016.
Greer CPW’s Electric Operations Manager Tony Farr accepted the award during the Association’s annual Engineering and Operations Technical Conference in San Antonio, Texas May 8, 2017.
“Safety is paramount in everything we do at CPW. It’s something we reiterate daily and includes company-wide monthly OSHA training so our employees go home to their families each day,” said Mike Richard, CPW General Manager.
Utilities were placed in categories according to their number of worker hours and ranked based on the most incident- free records during 2016. Greer CPW’s electric department recorded zero work related incidents in 2016 and logged more than 31,000 hours – receiving first place in our category.
“When it comes to electric utility operations, safety is a top priority for everyone involved; from lineman to operator,” said Rick Aguilar, chair of the APPA Safety Committee. “These utilities have embraced a culture of safety while serving their local communities and deserve to be recognized”, said Aguilar.
Greer CPW joins more than 110 public power utilities nationwide that earned the Association’s Safety Award of Excellence. The safety awards have been held annually for the past 58 years. CPW has received the Safety Award of Excellence in 1994-1998, 2011 and 2016.
