Greer Commission of Public Works (Greer CPW) is preparing for electric infrastructure improvements on Foster Circle, McElrath Road, Beech Springs Road, Boling Circle and Wellhouse Road in February 2025. We remain committed to providing reliable utilities and this work will help us strengthen grid resiliency and minimize future outages.
Starting in early February, we will begin our work to remove overhead electric lines and bury them underground in this area. Once we have completed this work, we will remove as much of Greer CPW’s overhead lines as possible. We anticipate this work lasting a couple of months and we will perform work during normal business hours.
This work will be completed by our contractors, Utility Partners of America (UPA) and they will have magnets on the sides of vehicles indicating they are our contractor. We anticipate minimal impacts to yards due to the equipment being used.
This work will require planned outages for up to two hours as we switch the power from overhead to underground and we plan to communicate those upcoming outages using an automated phone call. It is important that customers update their contact information with Greer CPW by logging into your Customer Service Portal and hit the “notification” tab or by calling 864-848-5500.
Why is Greer CPW/Utility Partners of America performing work in the area?
We are committed to providing reliable utilities to the Greater Greer community. We have identified areas that could benefit from removing overhead utility lines and burying them underground. This will help us strengthen grid resiliency and minimize future outages in your area.
What type of impacts should I experience while you complete this work?
Customers may experience planned outages as we switch our power from overhead to underground. These outages could be brief, or they could last up to two hours. We will communicate these planned outages using an automated phone call. Please ensure your phone number is up to date. To update your phone number, please log into your Customer Service Portal and hit the “notification” tab. You can also call 864-848-5500. We do not anticipate any yard impacts due to the equipment we are using. We will return yards to their original state following our work.
Do I need to be home during this work?
No. It is not required that you be home during this work. In the event we perform an outage at your house while you are gone, clocks on your appliances may need to be reset. Any food in your fridge should be able to maintain temperature during our outages and should not spoil.
Will this make my bill go up? Do I have to pay for this work?
No. Greer CPW has identified areas for improving our electric infrastructure and has budgeted for this work through our capital improvement plan.
Why did you cut off part of the utility poles? Will you come back to remove them?
We share poles with other utilities. It is up to the other utilities to remove their equipment before we can completely remove the pole from the area.
